An important milestone at the Kvanj tunnel

08 September 2026

Another important stage of a major infrastructure project near Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been completed: excavation of the Kvanj Tunnel is now finished.

The tunnel is a key component of the southern section of the strategic corridor connecting Bosnia and Herzegovina to Europe’s transport network.

The right tunnel tube is 2,645 metres long, while the left tunnel tube is 2,720 metres long.

Azvirt, an Azerbaijani company, is part of the international consortium constructing the Kvanj–Buna motorway section. Within the consortium, Azvirt works alongside China Road and Bridge Corporation of the People’s Republic of China and the local company Hering. This is another example of the Azerbaijani construction company applying its international expertise to the implementation of major infrastructure projects in the Balkans.

Construction work will continue during the next stage to bring the tunnel and the motorway section fully into operation.
